The special report released yesterday by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) depicts a dire outlook for our ocean. The panel’s conclusions that both marine ecosystems and humans’ livelihoods are on a course to crisis are consistent with our findings and observations at the New England Aquarium.
.
Every day, our scientists see the effects of climate change on the ocean, from rapidly increasing sea surface temperatures in the Gulf of Maine to shifting migration of the endangered North Atlantic right whale to changes in Atlantic cod distribution.
.
Also every day, through research, education, advocacy, and partnerships, we work on solutions. We are engaging and activating individuals, communities, policymakers, and industry leaders to mitigate climate change, reduce pollution, and advance sustainable fishing and ocean uses.
.
We need to take action to heal our ocean and, together, protect the blue planet.
